Short answer: a sold-out screen on the official portal almost always means the advance quota for that zone and shift is gone, not that the park is full. The Forest Department releases seats again at fixed times every day: current seats at 10:00 am, tatkal seats at 11:00 am for the date a week ahead, and premium tatkal seats at 10:00 am and 6:00 pm from cancellations. If you know those windows, most dates can still be booked. We do this every day and the permit is issued in your name.

Why the official site says sold out

Every zone has a fixed number of gypsy and canter seats per shift, and most of them are sold months ahead through the advance quota. Advance seats open at 12 noon, roughly two months before the season block starts, and the popular dates go within days: Diwali week, Christmas to New Year, long weekends and most Saturdays from November to February. When you search a date in that period, the portal shows the advance quota, finds it empty, and says sold out.

What it does not show is that a slice of every zone is held back for later release. Those later quotas are the whole game for anyone booking inside a month, and they are what this page is about.

One-screen version: the release calendar. Thinking of booking direct instead? Official portal vs booking through us.

Source: Rajasthan Forest Department booking calendar, forestrajasthan.com, and the booking portal’s own daily refresh schedule, both checked on 16 October 2026. The portal itself is open from 1:30 am to 11:30 pm IST and pauses sales for a few minutes before each release.

Two more facts the portal buries. Zones 1 to 5 do not run on Wednesdays and zones 6 to 10 do not run on Tuesdays, so a Tuesday or Wednesday date has half the usual seats. And zones 1 to 5 are closed from July to September; in the monsoon only zones 6 to 10 operate.

What to do, by how far away your date is

Today or tomorrow

Your route is the current quota at 10:00 am, canter seats only (from ₹2,200, available now), plus premium tatkal at 10:00 am and 6:00 pm if someone cancelled. Send your date, shift and group size before 10:00 am. Canter seats on the day are the most common last-minute booking we make.

2 to 3 days away

Premium tatkal is the main chance: cancelled seats released at 10:00 am and 6:00 pm for the date three days out. Be flexible on shift and vehicle. A group of six can also take a full tatkal gypsy if the date was within the T+7 window when you asked.

4 to 7 days away

This is tatkal territory. At 11:00 am each day the portal releases full gypsies for the date exactly seven days ahead. It is a whole vehicle for up to six guests, not single seats, so it suits families and groups. Singles and couples do better waiting for the current quota.

1 to 4 weeks away

Advance seats trickle back when bookings are cancelled, and the tatkal window arrives a week before your date. We keep your request on our daily list and book the moment a seat shows. If your dates are flexible, a weekday other than Tuesday or Wednesday is the easiest switch.

Peak dates

Diwali (8 November 2026), Christmas to New Year and February weekends sell out weeks ahead and release little. Book advance seats the day the block opens, or plan a canter rather than a gypsy. Tatkal and premium tatkal still run on these dates, with heavy competition.

Foreign nationals

Every route above is open to you at the department’s higher foreign-national fee. Bring your passport; the permit carries each guest’s name and document. Our foreign-national prices are on the Ranthambore safari booking page.

What a sold-out date costs

Advance seats are the cheapest, but right now they are sold out for most upcoming dates. Later quotas carry a higher Forest Department fee, and a full tatkal gypsy is priced per vehicle. Our all-in prices for Indian nationals, including permit, vehicle, driver, guide and our booking service:

RoutePriceNotes

Tatkal gypsyfrom ₹36,000 per vehicleWhole jeep, 6 seats (about ₹6,000 each), released 7 days ahead; non-refundable and non-transferable once booked

Foreign nationals pay the department’s higher fee on every route: from ₹4,500 (current canter), from ₹5,500 (premium canter), ₹3,500 (advance canter), ₹4,000 (advance gypsy), from ₹8,000 (premium gypsy seat), ₹32,999 (private gypsy), ₹46,000 (whole premium gypsy) and ₹50,000 (tatkal gypsy). A Forest Department permit is non-refundable once issued. If a permit cannot be issued after you have paid us, you get a full refund.

How we book a sold-out date

  1. You send the date, shift, group size and vehicle on WhatsApp or through the form on our Ranthambore safari booking page. Tell us how flexible you are on shift, zone and vehicle; flexibility is what gets a seat.
  2. We check the live portal and tell you which quota your date falls under, what it will cost, and how likely it is. If it is unlikely, we say so.
  3. We book in the release window. Current at 10:00 am, tatkal at 11:00 am, premium at 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. We do this every day for a list of guests, so we are at the screen when seats appear.
  4. The permit is issued in your name and you pay only after it is confirmed. You get the permit and the pick-up details on WhatsApp.

What we cannot do: create seats that the department has not released, guarantee a specific zone, or move a permit to another name or date once it is issued. Anyone who promises those things is selling something else.

Sold out online? Ask us. We book from the daily current and tatkal quotas, and you pay only after we confirm availability, with a full refund if the permit can’t be issued.

Five mistakes to avoid when a date is sold out

Questions people ask when the portal says sold out

What does “sold out” mean on the Ranthambore booking site?

That the advance quota for that zone, date and shift has been taken. Three more quotas open later: current seats the day before and on the day, tatkal seats seven days before, and premium tatkal seats three days before from cancellations. A sold-out screen weeks ahead is normal for peak dates.

When do Ranthambore safari seats get released each day?

Current safari seats open daily at 10:00 am for today’s afternoon and tomorrow’s morning drive. Tatkal opens daily at 11:00 am for the date seven days ahead. Premium tatkal opens at 10:00 am and 6:00 pm for the date three days ahead, from cancellations only. Advance seats open at 12 noon on 1 August (for Oct–Dec), 1 November (for Jan–Mar) and 1 February (for Apr–Jun). All times IST.

What is tatkal booking in Ranthambore?

A quota released seven days before the safari date, at 11:00 am, for a full gypsy only, with a minimum of six guests. It costs from ₹36,000 for the whole six-seat vehicle through us (from ₹50,000 for foreign nationals), it is non-refundable and non-transferable once booked. For a smaller group, ask about premium-quota gypsy seats from ₹5,500 per person, or a whole premium gypsy at ₹36,000 (from ₹8,000 and ₹46,000 for foreign nationals), subject to availability.

Can I get a Ranthambore safari for tomorrow?

Often, yes. Current-quota seats for tomorrow morning open at 10:00 am today, canter seats only, and premium tatkal may release cancelled seats at 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. Send us your date and group size before 10:00 am and we try in that window. Nothing is paid until the permit is confirmed.

How much does a sold-out date cost compared with advance booking?

Our advance prices for Indian nationals are ₹1,700 per canter seat and ₹2,500 per gypsy seat, but advance seats are sold out for most upcoming dates. Current-quota canter seats, available now, are from ₹2,200 per person and premium canter seats from ₹3,200. Premium-quota gypsy seats are from ₹5,500 per person, a whole premium gypsy ₹36,000 and a tatkal gypsy from ₹36,000 per vehicle. Foreign nationals pay ₹3,500 and ₹4,000 on the advance quota, and from ₹4,500 (current canter), ₹5,500 (premium canter), ₹8,000 (premium gypsy seat), ₹46,000 (whole premium gypsy) and ₹50,000 (tatkal gypsy).

Can you guarantee a seat or a zone on a sold-out date?

No. Seats are released by the Forest Department and zones are allocated by its system. What we guarantee is the process: we book in the release window, the permit is issued in your name, you pay only after it is confirmed, and if it cannot be issued after payment you get a full refund.
