The 20-seat open canter is the cheapest seat in the park and the one most often available at short notice.

Advance seats (canter ₹1,700, gypsy ₹2,500) are mostly sold out until December, but some zones still have seats on some dates, so we check yours first; from January they are likely open. If your date is gone, we book the later releases: pay 50% to hold, balance the day before. On festive dates (Diwali week and 20 Dec–2 Jan) a canter seat is ₹3,500 and a whole gypsy on tatkal ₹38,000 (any zone), ₹42,000 (core 1–6) or ₹47,000 (zone 2, 3 or 4); foreign nationals pay ₹6,000 for a canter seat and ₹2,000 more for a whole gypsy; gypsy seats are 20–30% above these prices. All prices are per safari, all-in (permit, vehicle and guide), for Indian nationals.
Foreign nationals: canter from ₹4,500 · gypsy seat from ₹8,000 · whole gypsy from ₹46,000. Full price list by zone · Same-day safaris by phone only: +91 84400 22066

In short: a canter is Ranthambore’s open 20-seat safari vehicle, and canter seats are the ones you can book right now: from ₹2,200 per person all-in for Indian nationals on the current quota (from ₹4,500 for foreign nationals), or ₹3,200 (from ₹5,500) for a premium canter seat, permit and guide included. It runs the same zones and shifts as the gypsies. It is the seat families and groups book, and the seat most often still available at short notice. Send your date and we confirm it in minutes; you pay after we confirm availability.

Check my date on WhatsAppYou are a family or group of three or more, you want the lowest price per person, you are booking inside a week, or you are travelling with older guests who prefer a higher seat and an easier step up.
You are a couple or a photographer, you want a quieter vehicle that sits lower and stops more freely, or you want to be sure of a window seat. A gypsy seat is ₹2,500 for Indian nationals on the advance quota, but those are sold out for most dates; at short notice the only jeep is a full tatkal gypsy from ₹36,000. Full comparison.
Both vehicles enter at the same gates, drive the same tracks in the allocated zone, and return at the same time. The guide and driver are allocated by the Forest Department either way.
Tigers are seen from canters and gypsies alike. The zone and the day matter far more than the vehicle, and no one can guarantee a sighting. Send your date →
The current quota is canter seats only; there has been no current quota for gypsies since October 2022. At 10:00 am each day the department releases seats for that afternoon and the next morning; on a sold-out date this is usually the way in. We keep a daily list and book in that window. Tell us your date before 10:00 am, be flexible on the shift, and have every guest’s ID ready. What sold out really means.
Sold out online? Ask us. We book from the daily current and tatkal quotas, and you pay only after we confirm availability, with a full refund if the permit can’t be issued.

Twenty, in rows of open bench seats. Families and groups usually get seats together when booked in one permit.
Canters and gypsies drive the same routes at the same times, and both are open vehicles. A gypsy is quieter, lower and better for photography; a canter is higher, cheaper and easier to get at short notice. Tiger sightings depend on the zone and the day far more than the vehicle.
Often, yes. Current-quota canter seats for tomorrow morning open at 10:00 am today. Send your date before 10:00 am and we book in that window; you pay only after the seat is confirmed.
All ten zones run canters, though not every zone every shift. Zones 1 to 5 are closed on Wednesdays and zones 6 to 10 on Tuesdays.
